Mind Coaching exercise: Change your inner interpretation

This summer I have been studying to become a certified trainer in the Swedish model of Integrated Mental Training developed by psychology professor Lars-Eric Uneståhl at the Scandinavian International University.

One impactful exercise I can truly recommend in order to challenge our internal interpretation of external events is the following:

This week I received negative news about a consultancy job I applied for and used this exercise to restructure the meaning of it. This is an example of a positive and negative interpretation of the negative news I received.

Positive interpretation: "It probably means that another candidate offered something that fits better into their program than I did".
Consequence: "I will make better research for similar jobs in the future and thereby better adapt my proposals to the needs of the program/target group"

Negative interpretation: "I means that I'm not good of the things I'm doing".
Consequence: "I should give up and change my job"

The first interpretation is for sure more useful for me than the second. By practising this exercise regular it is possible to become better of restructuring the interpretation of daily event and thereby handle them better.
